Northside Mission Trip Scholarship Info

Well, this isn't the Scholarship Request Form, but we are going to answer a few questions here:

Q: Who qualifies for a trip scholarship?
A: Northside members going on a Northside-planned mission trip. If you're unsure of your membership status, you might want to check with the church office, or consider attending the New Members Class. Don't assume your regular attendance = membership.

Q: How much help can I get from a trip scholarship?
A: Up to 1/3 of the advertised trip cost, if you need it. We hope that you try to save or raise funds first, then see how much you still need. It may not be the full 1/3.

Q: When and how do I apply for a scholarship?
A: First, you have to already be registered for the trip with your deposit. Then, one month out from the trip, we'll send you an email with a link to the online Scholarship Request Form. Fill it out and submit it, and we'll process it--assuming that your membership is verified. We wait until one month out for the request form to be available so that you have time to save or raise other funds. The intention is for the scholarship to be the last funds available, if you need it.

Q: What info do you need to process my scholarship request?
A: Just an honest answer on how much you need to be able to go (up to 1/3), a couple of references, and a promise to give us your written trip testimony after you get back. We don't ask for any financial info to process this scholarship.

Q: Is there a chance that my scholarship request will be rejected?
A: If you're not a Northside member, yes. But if you are a Northside member, probably not. The only likely reason for being denied is if you haven't fulfilled a previous obligation, such as a unpaid account, or if you haven't submitted your post-trip testimony from a past mission trip.

Q: How will I know if I got a scholarship?
A: About three weeks or so before a trip, we'll send you a summary of your account activity--which includes payments, sponsorships, fundraising disbursements, etc. Your scholarship will be noted.

Q: Are there other ways to raise money for a mission trip?
A: Sure. Sponsorships and Fundraisers. We encourage trip participants to write sponsorship letters to family and friends, letting them know what you're doing and that you could use their help. We can provide a sample letter to give you an idea. Some teams also plan fundraisers. Check with your trip leader about your trip's fundraising events.
