Haiti

During this trip I had the opportunity to work in the clinic in the mission compound. This experience helped me realize how much I love doing medical work and helping people who otherwise might never recieve help. It also confirmed that I want to pursue medical work and bring medical help to people all over the world who need it just like the people I helped in Haiti. It was truely an amazing trip. I learned so many lessons about other people on the trip with me and about stuff like patience and love. It was awesome.

Haiti

I loved Haiti. When we were flying into Port-au-Prince, I looked straight down onto a neighborhood on the side of a mountain. It looked like a pile of rust due to their rusting tin roofs. Amidst all the poverty, Haiti was a beautiful nation... Hurting, but beautiful.

We stayed at the mission in St. Louis du Nord for a few days. There are different ways to help out there, including a nursery, a gran moun (a place for elderly people), and a house for the mentally and physically incapable. Personally, I spent most of my time in the nursery.

We spent most of our trip in Chansolme, a small village that the high school sponsors. We did a VBS each afternoon, and took place in a nightly revival. The revivals were amazing, just to see people from all histories coming together to worship one God under one tent, beneath a starry sky. It was beautiful.

We did VBS's all throughout the northwest zone, including Chansolme, Libe, Isle Tortuga, and St. Louis du Nord. It was life touching to see the children that lived in Haiti, all worshipping their little hearts out. It was an amazing two weeks.

Haiti

Haiti definitely stole a piece of my heart. Going to Chansolme and seeing how people lived day-to-day was very heart-wrenching. Families live in small houses with little to eat and drink. Simple diseases and health problems kill hundreds of people each day. Knowing how much the Rising is planning on helping Chansolme, I jumped on board to HelpHealHaiti right away. Also, being in Haiti really expanded my comfort bubble. For one day I told myself I would do everything I wouldn't normally do, and for the rest of the trip I felt like nothing was too uncomfortable for me. I even led a devotion for the elderly! All in all, Haiti really changed my life and I will forever love the people and country.
