When:
Haiti II - Mon - Fri, June 18-29 , 2012
Who:
College Age (18-24 yrs) Capacity: 25
Description:
Over the last few years, through the influence of the high school ministry, Northside has been increasingly involved in helping to make a positive difference among the poverty and devestation that Haiti has experienced. The core of this trip is made up of college age students who want to continue the work that has started through Northside's partnership with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. The team will work with the local Haitian church to help build a church building in the town of Chansolme. The team will also visit and lead a program with the kids at the orphanage, as well as visit the main campus of the mission, which has several ways to serve.
About the Mission:
Northwest Haiti Christian Mission is dedicated to provide hope to overcome the desperate physical and spiritual needs in Haiti. The mission has multiple campuses with a total of six churches which house schools for children from preschool through sixth grade, as well as a Bible College. The mission offers feeding, housing, and sponsorship programs for the elderly, a home for special needs children, a surgery facility, clinic, pediatrics clinic, lab, pharmacy, birthing clinic, and eye and dental clinics as well. The orphanage houses about 100 children and is partnered with a malnutrition program for kids from ages one to four years old. The mission also has an infant orphanage.
Accomodations:
You will likely stay in three different locations. While in the town of Chansolme, helping to build a church building, you'll have the option of sleeping on an air or foam mattress on the flat roof of a building, or on the ground under a thatched roof. While at the orphanage, you'll sleep under a covered outdoor pavillion. And at the main campus, bunkbeds are available. At the main campus, there is running water, showers, and flushing toilets. Expect outhouse facilities at the other locations. No, it's not the same as a 4-star hotel, but you'll experience what it's like to live like the Haitians. As for drinking water, don't worry. We'll make sure you have plenty of bottled water.
